In this student-led module, students will work independently to create the designs for a theatre production. The design elements could focus on either set, costume, or lights, or a combination of two or three of these elements in negotiation with the tutor/Head of Course at the beginning of the year.
Firstly, the student will outline the directorial vision of the project, working from a text of their choosing. Alternatively, the student may choose to work with a director, who will provide the vision and criteria that the student must work towards. Whichever path they chose, they will then have to create a design that fits the vision for the production, for a specified venue or a proposed tour.
1. To provide students with the experience of aligning their artistic concepts to industry practices.
2. To encourage and prepare students to develop a professional-level portfolio of work
3. To develop students’ work to a standard that meets industry expectations
4. To further develop understanding of the professional issues that frame the work of a theatre designer
1. The ability to produce work in relation to professional expectations, practices, protocols and regulations, including health and safety requirements
2. Practical understanding of the processes and conventions for designing the artistic elements of a production.
3. Ability to source and utilise research materials in relation to a creative project.
4. Ability to formulate a design scheme that makes creative and appropriate use of the interactions between performer, audience, and performance space
5. Ability to formulate a design scheme that balances artistic and practical requirements,
