Module description

This module runs over 10 weeks, and can wither run the length of the Autumn or Summer Term, or be separated into smaller blocks of work. The student will be responsible for securing their own placement, with approval needed from the
Head of Course. The type of placement will vary according to student interest but it may fall under the following headings:
- Theatre Management
- Company Management
- Film Production
- Media
- Stage Management
- Dramaturgy or Research Assistant
- Assistant Director (film or theatre)
- Arts Administration

Module aims

The aims of this module are:



  • To give the student the opportunity to put their academic learning outcomes into a work context

  • To add work related learning outcomes to their portfolio

  • To reinforce and practically introduce students to professional standards of process and production

  • To allow students to build a network of colleagues and possible future collaborators before graduation

Module learning outcomes

Students will be expected to define aims and objectives in your contract at the start of the placement. The template for this is as follows.



  • Demonstrate a capacity to work in a team within a work environment

  • Communicate with a range of colleagues and clients in a working environment

  • A capacity to connect subject specific theory and practice to a work environment

  • Further develop skills towards the creative application of the knowledge acquired in first two years

  • Demonstrate the use of a range of work practices as they relate to the activities and roles required of you, these will include:

    • time and workload management

    • recognising and managing stress

    • working independently and as part of a team

    • working safely

    • working independently according to remit given



  • Consider the effectiveness of your own performance
