Module description

The work of this final year module is to integrate students' skills and techniques learned in first and second year into the first supported production that they will perform in their final professional preparation year.

The students will present a selectin of short scenes from contemporary plays performed by two companies in repertory. The selected scenes will normally be guided by what is deemed suitable for the specific needs of the year cohort as a whole, thus helping to develop areas of work and professional growth which need to be addressed and consolidated specifically within the company of actors.

Plays and workshops are directed either by East 15 staff or visiting directors.

Module aims

1. To encourage students to gain a greater verbal dexterity and sense of style whilst engaging truthfully with text and audience
2. To provide opportunities for students to perform to a wider public audience
3. To identify, consolidate and extend students’ acting strengths under the pressure of production criteria.
4. To provide opportunities for students to experience a range of working methods with visiting outside Directors.

Module learning outcomes

Students will be able to:

1. Cope with and respond to a range of audiences
2. Express and develop their acting skills as part of a public presentation
3. Sustain character with the demands of a technical production
4. Demonstrate the synthesis of technique and individuality in performance using different language forms/dialects and styles of dramatic form
5. Communicate confidently and expressively to an audience with appropriate emotion, characterisation and spontaneity
