BA DKAS Stage and Production Management

Module description

Students will undertake varied production roles during this module. Roles may include (Assistant Stage Manager, Deputy Stage Manager, Assistant Production Manager, and Technical department assistants. These roles will enable the student to develop their team working and managerial skills whilst learning through practice on practical productions.

Module aims

The aims of the module are to:
1. Develop the students skills in the area of Stage/Production or Technical Management.
2. Develop the student's Management skills
3. Enhance the students' knowledge of the collaborative Production process in a professional environment.
4. Develop the students Professionalism in the key skills areas of:
a) Communication, reliability, time management;
b) Team work;
c) Initiative and self-motivation;
d) Commitment and flexibility;
e) Organisation.
5. Further develop the students' Practical Skills in the key areas of:
a) Quality and finish of practical work;
b) Attention to detail on practical work;
c) Management and organisation of the student work environment;
d) Management and understanding of budgets;
e) Understanding of Health and Safety.
6. Develop the students understanding of the importance of reflection and critical thinking
7. Develop the students' understanding of the importance of documentation and record keeping

By the end of the module student will have an understanding of:
1. The skills application required for production working.
2. Management Theory and practice

4. The production/Project process from beginning to completion

Learning and teaching methods

Small group practical classes, seminars, tutorials, independent work and supervised productions. Students learn through practiced based teaching on this module. Small group seminars happen at the beginning of the module to focus the student on the managerial elements of the roles they are undertaking, this is then supported by regular tutorials and production based meetings.

Additional coursework information

Assessment is based on the ability to achieve the learning outcomes of the module related to the overall criteria contained in the Year Two Assessment Form and Grading Descriptors. Formative assessment and feedback is given throughout the module and Summative assessment is undertaken at the end of the term in which the module is taken and marks issued to students on the Assessment Form together with written tutor comments. Students must pass all elements of assessment to pass the Module It is expected that 2nd year students studying PP1, PP2, & PP3 will submit on Stage or Production Management roles on 2 out of the 3 modules in any order, the remaining module will be technical role based

  • In-person, open book: Your exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer to any physical materials such as paper study notes or a textbook during the exam. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
  • In-person, open book (restricted): The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer only to specific physical materials such as a named textbook during the exam. Permitted materials will be specified by your department. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
  • In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary, for example, may be permitted in an otherwise closed book exam. Any exceptions will be specified by your department.
