BA W412 Acting and Stage Combat
The second year will begin to utilise the training that was established in Year One, by looking at acting theory into practice; direct application of singing and rhythm; strengthen vocal production and articulation in practice – possibly moving into accents. You will explore different methods of rehearsal and further exploration into the scenic unit. This term will have a greater focus on scripts and play-texts – directly applying your skills in practice.
1. To familiarise students with a number of plays from differing time periods and genres
2. To build confidence and self-analysis in performance situations
3. To develop ability to give life to complex texts
4. To apply a range of rehearsal techniques
5. To develop understanding of the connection between music, movement and acting
On completion of this module, students will be able to:
Acting
1. Commit truthfully to a character from a given script
2. Sustain a believable relationship with a fellow performer
3. Analyse a text for clues to character, relationships, pace and timing
4. Recognise the rhythm and acting beats in a dramatic text
Voice
1. Increase your ways and styles of warming-up the voice and other forms of vocal preparation
2. Demonstrate the ability to explore the voice freely and creatively
3. Carry intimate speech into the performance space
4. Use a variety of vocal expressions in performance
5. Explore the application of different kinds of muscular support to the production of sound and speech
Music
1. Connect breath – movement - thought – and language
2. Understand how rhythm and tempo influences movement
3. Incorporate music appreciation in the recitation of text
On completion of this unit you will also be able to:
1. To incorporate the skills developed in class to specific scenes and dramatic speeches
2. Effectively rehearse scenes and speeches
3. Identify, and work to overcome, personal stumbling blocks
4. Objectively analyse your own work
5. Make effective use of constructive criticism from a director
