Students will extend the work of EA211 to develop their performance technique and heighten awareness of the importance of relationships between characters. Texts chosen for this module will be based on the repertoire of Classic Naturalism and will include the work of Chekhov and other Russian dramatists. An important theme of the module is the conflict of old ideologies with the emerging new world.
The module aims to encourage students to:
1. Create fully the world of the play
2. Become more subtle in their character creation
3. Develop their ability to communicate with an audience
4. Apply acting methodology in more challenging situations.
5. Expand their understanding of human nature and relationships.
By the end of the module you will be able to demonstrate ability to:
- Find and communicate connection between text, character & situation.
- Sustain creativity through fresh responses to material & fellow actors.
- Transform into character through rehearsal choices.
- Take and build on Director’s notes.
- Exercise flexibility & sensitivity to change within the process.

Texts chosen for this module will be based on the repertoire of Classic Naturalism and will include the work of Chekhov, Gorky, Gogal and other great dramatic studies of human behaviour such as Ibsen or Strindberg. An important theme of the module is the conflict of old ideologies with the emerging new world.
Students work with tutors in group practical classes.
Learning also takes place in presentations, workshops and supervised and unsupervised rehearsals
