MFA W4P312 Acting for Digital Media
This module provides the opportunity to reflect on your training, both exploring individual subjects and thinking about how the learning from your various subjects inform each other.
Using skills from across the degree programme, your portfolio will be a digital record of your learning that can also be used after graduation to showcase your skills, assisting with employability. The portfolio will be both a retrospective and reflective look at their training and development and a forward-looking study that explores career and study options that are open to the student.
With your portfolio supervisor you will decide on specific topic / theme that will focus the project on your personal development and career aspirations. The format for the final portfolio will be unique to each student, including a variety of written work, video footage, possibly digital art, photography, and possibly spreadsheets. While the main focus can vary, the project should address the following three categories:
1. Reflections on modular and independent learning and how these connect to your holistic development as an artist (reflection)
2. A researched plan for their progress following graduation, demonstrating a clear path towards specific career or further educational goals (progress)
3. A collection of edited material that will support the above (showcase)
1. To allow the student to initiate and pursue a substantial independent project
2. To enable the student to reflect critically and creatively on a range of skills and knowledge appropriate to the training
3. To promote critical awareness of current contemporary performance practices
4. To promote originality in the application of knowledge
5. To assist the student to prepare for either their progression into employment or a second year of study.
6. To develop the student’s communication skills, using different media
7. To encourage the application of knowledge to specific criteria and circumstances
8. To widen students’ knowledge of individuals and organisations offering employment
1. The ability to plan and complete a substantial independent project, with limited tutorial guidance
2. Comprehensiveness and discrimination in the gathering, editing and presentation of research materials
3. Appropriate and significant use of research materials
4. Clearly demonstrate substantial evidence of analytical thought
5. Develop students’ communication skills in a creative format
6. Confident representation of knowledge and skills to a potential employer
The unit focuses on students' ability to express a range of ideas and on the practicalities of organising and assessing a future personal plan. Through a process of reflecting on their learning and development over the year, the student will be able to highlight significant progress, interests and skills and be able to match them to career and educational aims. The students will research potential employment opportunities and prepare appropriate CVs, audition material, and reels for a range of employment markets.
By working with the portfolio supervisor, the student will further develop thier awareness of how best to present themselves to employers and companies that they would like to work with in the future. MFA students will also use this time to prepare for the learning of the following year, setting specific aims and goals for themselves in order to progress as a self-employed artist. On the completion of the unit the students should be able to clearly demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions about potential career options and create a strategic plan in which to approach these aims.
While the students will have occasions seminars on the preparation of the material, most of work will be independently created with the support of the portfolio supervisor. They will have a series of meetings that will explore:
Reflection on their learning development
Research Topics and Strategies
Choosing and editing 'artifacts'
Presentation material and style

Classes will be appropriate for students with learning and/or physical disabilities, and delivery (exercises and performances) can be altered to ensure inclusivity. Access to the study space is accessible, by being either on the ground floor or via a lift. Reading material and scripts can be provided in advance.

Exam format definitions
- Remote, open book: Your exam will take place remotely via an online learning platform. You may refer to any physical or electronic materials during the exam.
- In-person, open book: Your exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer to any physical materials such as paper study notes or a textbook during the exam. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, open book (restricted): The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer only to specific physical materials such as a named textbook during the exam. Permitted materials will be specified by your department. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary,
