Module description

This module provides students with a range of mathematical techniques to be applied to the solution of practical problems using MATLAB.

Module aims

The aim of this module is to provide students with an understanding of the principles of a range of mathematical techniques and how they can be applied to the solution of practical problems using the language MATLAB.

Module learning outcomes

After completing this module, students will be expected to be able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of MATLAB language.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of mathematical techniques introduced in this module.
3. Apply these techniques in MATLAB to solve practical problems.

Outline Syllabus

Introduction to MATLAB.
Numerical Matrix computation.
Analysis and handling of functions of one variable including data fitting, interpolation, root finding and optimisation.
Analysis of multi-dimensional data including data science techniques such as clustering and classification.
Random numbers and Monte Carlo simulation.
