Winsten Day for schools

Our annual Winsten Day is a free enrichment event for Year 12 pupils. It includes mathematical problem solving sessions, advice on applying to university and lectures from our academics. The day ends with the keynote Winsten lecture, delivered by a notable speaker from the world of mathematics. The lecture is open to the public and previous speakers have included Simon Singh, Professor John Barrow, Joe Twyman, Stella Dudzic and Alex Bellos.

The day is named in honour of Professor Christopher Winsten, who was an internationally respected probability theorist and former member of our Department who passed away in 2005. He left a substantial sum to be used to further the reputation of mathematics at Essex.
