Advertising Production Guidelines

All University of Essex advertisements are produced centrally, so that our style and identity is consistent. We have one member of staff who is responsible for producing all advertisements, whom you are welcome to contact at any time for advice on advertising issues.

This person will:

  • Place an order with our advertising production company
  • Liaise with the company, checking each proof in detail until a final proof is agreed
  • Send the proof to the appropriate department for approval
  • Sign off the proof and deal with the invoice

University of Essex advertisements are set within a series of strict stylistic guidelines. If you wish to place an ad, you should be aware that your text or style may be changed in order to adhere to these rules.

The rules include:

  • Adhering to an existing official style (of which there are four; please contact us for details)
  • Correct use of the University logo (there are very strict guidelines here; please contact us for details)
  • Correct use of the designated font (Aksidenz)
  • Writing the University address and contact details in full
  • Using words in upper and lower case (no words will be written entirely in upper case)

If you are planning to place an ad, please be aware of the following:

  • Your ad may be edited, or its style changed
  • Your ad may need cutting; be clear about which points are the most important
  • You cannot change the approved styles

For further advice on placing an advertisement to promote the courses or facilities available at the University, please contact Victoria Bartholomew, the Marketing Officer (Postgraduate), ext 4857, e-mail vbarth.

Note, If your ad is concerned with staff recruitment, please contact the Personnel Section.
