developing your writing

Date: Wednesday 11 November 2009

Time: 1000 - 1200

Location: 4SB.5.3

Target group: research staff, early career academics and postgraduate researchers

Trainer: Anthony Haynes

Session:

Writing is a core skill for researchers.

Excellence in research does not on its own guarantee either publication or stakeholder satisfaction. Research papers and reports need to be well written and professionally presented.

In this practical, ‘crunchy’, training session, an experienced academic editor provides his ‘ten top tips’ for writing research successfully. Drawing on experience of working with hundreds of researchers, Anthony Haynes explains both ‘those things that academic authors should do but often fail to do’ and ‘those things they shouldn’t do – but all too often do!’ The advice covers the processes of both writing and editing your own work and focuses on the craft of shaping and presenting research-based texts.

The aim is to provide Essex researchers with a competitive advantage over other authors.

Anthony will also provide 1-1 writing development clinic sessions on 11 Nov, 8 December and 19 January. Limited places available.  Priority will be given to research staff.
