London 2012 and the University of Essex

The London 2012 Olympics was the biggest sporting event to be held in the UK. Situated just 45 minutes from the main Olympic site, the University of Essex offers some of the most advanced sporting facilities in the county and is at the forefront of performance research. Our academics and staff were involved in research and educational initiatives linked to London 2012 plus events to promote the sporting legacy.

Expert advice and world-class facilities

Our Human Performance Unit understands the pressures and demands of elite sports and works with leading athletes to improve performance, whilst the Centre for Sports and Exercise is one of the leading academic institutions for sports science research in the UK.

Find out more about how the university is at the forefront of research and expertise relevant to the Olympics.

Building a sporting legacy

Nurturing up and coming sporting talent is something Essex has a proven track record in - from the Future Stars Camp for Olympic and Paralympics hopefuls and initiatives to encourage young people to be more active and lead a healthier lifestyle, to our successful Sports Bursary scheme, allowing students to combine academic and sporting achievements.
