Essex Graduate Conference in Linguistics (EGCL)
The
EGCL - Essex Graduate Conference in Linguistics
(formerly the Graduate Student Presentation Day - GSPD) takes place in Spring each year.
It provides an opportunity for postgraduate students in the Department to
present their work to the Department's linguistics staff and student community
under conference-like conditions. For more information about recent and upcoming

Why Present at the EGCL?
- Because giving a presentation on your work forces you to
structure and evaluate it. This in turn enables you to spot
and hence remedy flaws in arguments and to identify new ways
forward.
- Because it will enable you to get feedback from others
on what you have done so far and to benefit from their
advice about what you might do in the future in terms of new
lines of exploration, more appropriate tools or techniques
and helpful literature.
- Because this is an excellent opportunity to get
conference practice in friendly surroundings.
Abstract Submission
All graduate students in the department are invited to submit abstracts for
paper or poster presentation. 3rd year undergraduates who have completed
research projects are encouraged to submit an abstract for poster presentation.
A call for abstracts is usually
issued around Christmas. Papers on any area of linguistics are welcome.
