BiographyAlan Cardew has taught at Essex since 1980, he is currently Director of the Enlightenment. In 2005-2006 was the Director for the Centre for American (US) Studies where he currently teaches courses on conspiracy theory and the history of New York. For some years he taught in the Department of Language and Linguistics. He is a member of the Centre for Theoretical Studies, and also teaches in the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies in the area of Refugee Care. He is particularly interested in interdisciplinary studies. He has recently written on Jung and Heidegger, Cassirer, Hermeneutics, and Nietzsche, and he is currently pursuing research on the interpretation of myth, and also the place of God in the Enlightenment.
