Food and drink
You won’t go hungry at Essex; we offer a wide choice of cafés,
restaurants and bars on our campuses and close by. In addition, our
high-quality self-catering accommodation offers you the chance to cook for
yourself or share meals with your flatmates.
Our Colchester Campus has nine busy restaurants, cafes and food outlets
that include:
- Blues Café
which overlooks Square 4 and offers a serene place to enjoy a coffee or
smoothie and a freshly prepared sandwich;
- Blues Salad
Bar, situated within our Blues Café and featuring fresh seasonal
salads, plus pasta, soup and jacket potatoes;
- Zest on Square 3,
our colourful and continental café that specialises in coffee, tea,
sandwiches and cakes, with an innovative adjoining learning space;
- Canteen, our
convenient canteen serving traditional English breakfasts and
international cuisines;
- Happy Days Diner,
serving burgers and shakes within a fabulous fifties retro diner
setting;
- Refresh on Square
3, a takeaway outlet providing sandwiches, pastries, salads and drinks
for those on the go;

Lakeside Theatre Café, next to our Library on Square 5, that
specialises in freshly prepared sandwiches, paninis, cakes and drinks;
and
Musa
We also have MUSA café restaurant at
firstsite, the major new arts
facility in the centre of Colchester.
Fusion and Top Bar
Fusion and Top Bar, opened in January 2012, our latest project in partnership with the
Students' Union, involved the refurbishment of
Top Bar and creation of a an exciting new adjoining Asian restaurant, Fusion.

Alongside these venues the Students’ Union (SU) manages the SU Bar – offering affordable drinks and food,
Frango's –
specialising in marinated chicken, and the
SU Bakery
– providing freshly baked snacks.
If you are cooking for yourself, then our Campus Shop is open 24-hours a
day,
Go-Go Global is stocked with food from around the world and a large
supermarket is within easy walking distance of our Colchester Campus.
Corbett Theatre Café Bar
The Corbett Theatre Café Bar at East 15 Acting School
offers the perfect place
for East 15 directing and acting students to meet up, relax and enjoy films.
There is also a stage area within the café for student performances, comedy,
mime, music and open mic nights.
Our modern accommodation in Southend also provides excellent
self-catering facilities and there are lots of shops in the town centre to
pick up ingredients.
If you want to eat out, there are plenty of cafés, sandwich shops and
restaurants within easy reach to suit all tastes and budgets.
Westcliff-on-Sea, particularly the Hamlet Court Road area, offers a wealth
of independently-owned eating outlets from countries around the world
including China, Italy, Greece and India.
When you are relaxing on Campus there are vending machines offering cold
drinks and snacks in The Gateway Building and facilities for hot drinks in
our Student Common Room.
