What we offer

We offer a number of routes to gaining a postgraduate qualification and professional recognition.

Cadenza

  • Audience: Any member of teaching or professional services staff and GTAs

Cadenza is the University’s professional development framework for those who are teaching and supporting learning in higher education. It has been designed to encourage all staff – academic, professional services and GTAs – to recognise and record their talents, strengths and achievements, and to apply for professional recognition with the Higher Education Academy at one of their four levels. Professional recognition gained through Cadenza is nationally recognised and portable.

PG Certificate in Higher Education Practice (PG CHEP)

  • Audience: Staff involved in teaching and supporting learning

The Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice is a qualification for staff involved in teaching and supporting learning who wish to develop their knowledge, skills and expertise in academic practice, and enhance their careers. The programme provides opportunities to plan, record, and evidence your professional activity in three key areas of higher education practice: learning and teaching; research; and teaching-related management and administration.

Excellence in Teaching Award (ETA)

  • Audience: Graduates and staff involved in teaching across all levels of experience

The Excellence in Teaching Award is an annual prize open to all University of Essex full- and part-time staff and GTAs who are able to demonstrate excellence in supporting the student learning experience. Applications from Colchester Institute, South Essex College and Writtle are also welcomed. Each year there are up to eight individual awards from £250 to £1,000.
