Excellence in Teaching Award (ETA)

The Excellence in Teaching Award has been established for all University of Essex full- and part-time staff and Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) who can demonstrate excellence in supporting the student learning experience. Applications from Colchester Institute, South Essex College and Writtle are also welcome. Each year there will be up to 4 individual awards of £1,000 made to staff in the 'Early Career' (up to five years full-time teaching experience) or 'Experienced' (more than five years full-time teaching experience) category, and up to 4 awards of £250 to GTAs, who can demonstrate excellence in the following areas:

  • Individual excellence - Evidence of promoting and enhancing the student learning experience
  • Raising the profile of excellence - Evidence of supporting colleagues and influencing support for student learning in your department and the institution (it is acknowledged that GTAs' responsibilities are likely to allow only limited fulfilment of this criterion)
  • Developing excellence - Commitment to your ongoing professional development

The deadline for the 2012-13 Award is noon on Monday 11 March 2013. If your application is successful the award will be allocated to your department to support your own professional development or learning and teaching activities. The Award has been aligned with the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) and it is envisaged that successful applicants will work towards submitting an application to the NTFS at some time in the future.

Please note that applications need to be signed off by your Head of Department or Head of Section, and only one individual and/or one group nomination per department or section may be submitted.

If you would like any more information, please contact Maxwell Stevenson in the first instance.
