Graduate teachers and demonstrators

Using the conference to meet your training requirements:

The Joining the Practitioner Network at Essex conference has been designed to allow graduates who teach meet their training requirements - as outlined in the University of Essex Code of practice on Teaching and Demonstrating by Graduate Students – in a lively conference setting, condensed into two days.

If you are Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA), in order to obtain the Attendance Certificate you will need to:

  • Attend Days 2 and 3 of the conference (21/22 September) and
  • Complete Module 1 of the on-line Equality and Diversity course (this can be completed online in your own time or face-to-face in one of the designated conference sessions.  See table below).

If you are a Graduate Demonstrator (GD) or Graduate Laboratory Assistant (GLA), in order to obtain the Attendance Certificate you will need to:

  • Attend a Teaching in Laboratories and Workshops session either on Wednesday 21 September or Thursday 22 September and
  • Complete Module 1 of the on-line Equality and Diversity course (this can be completed online in your own time or face-to-face in one of the designated conference sessions.  See table below).

Using the conference as an introduction to the Post-Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice:

  • If you would like to enrol on PG CHEP you should attend Days 2 and 3 of the conference, as above, ensuring that you attend a minimum of fifteen workshop hours during the conference.
  • Make sure you attend one of the ‘Introduction to PG CHEP’ sessions which will include further information about the programme together with PG CHEP registration procedures.

To assist you in your selection, and ensure you meet the fifteen hour total, the topics for each day are listed below with duration indicated.  You can book a place on the conference here.  Programme Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 September 2011.
