Welcome events

The success of the University depends on all members of staff having the skills, knowledge and experience to undertake their roles effectively. We are committed to providing a supportive and stimulating work environment which enables you to achieve your full potential. We offer a range of courses and resources tailored to your role and responsibilities.

We run various events for new members of staff. Places can be booked via our events calendar which lists upcoming dates. If an event is not currently listed, keep checking back for new dates. If you have any queries, please contact us.

Welcome Conference

  • Audience: All new staff
  • Date: 17 February 2014
  • Campus: Southend
  • Book your place

The Welcome Conference is a one-day event which offers you a chance to meet the Vice-Chancellor and senior management team, network with colleagues from across the University, find out about the support and opportunities that are available to you as a new member of staff and begin your compulsory training relating to health and safety.

The conference runs twice a year at the Colchester campus, where it is open to staff from all campuses. It is also run periodically at the Southend campus, where it is tailored to staff based at Southend and Loughton. If you work at either Southend or Loughton then you should attend the Welcome Conference that is most convenient and closest to your starting date.

Joining the Practitioner Network Conference: Graduate Demonstrators and Lab Assistants

  • Audience: Graduate Demonstrators and Lab Assistants
  • Date: 20 September 2013

This one-day conference is designed for Graduate Demonstrators and Lab Assistants. It provides an opportunity to meet fellow demonstrators, learn more about teaching in labs and workshops, hear about the experiences of colleagues, and complete your compulsory Equality and Diversity training.

Joining the Practitioner Network Conference: Academics and Graduate Teachers

  • Audience: Academics and Graduate Teachers
  • Date: 25 and 26 September 2013
  • Book your place

This conference is for anyone whose role involves teaching but is aimed primarily at graduate teaching assistants, and at lecturing staff who are in the early stages of their career and/or are new to the UK context. It is held at the Colchester campus over two days and is a chance to attend a range of learning and teaching related sessions, hear about the experiences of fellow lecturers and graduates, and find out about the support services available to students on campus.

For new lecturing staff, this event serves as the induction to both the PG Cert in Higher Education Practice (PG CHEP), and the Cadenza programme, both of which are pathways to achieving Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

For Graduate Teachers, this event allows you to complete a substantial part of your training requirement, including the opportunity to undertake your compulsory Equality and Diversity training.
