Aims and Objectives

The course aims to provide students with an advanced conceptual understanding, which is informed by insight based on scholarship at the forefront of the discipline, of the methods, techniques and legal principles regarding European Union law; set the relevant law and policy in its business and global contexts; develop critical, analytical and research skills, and transferable skills; and produce graduates capable of working in the field of European Union law as lawyers, regulators, legal advisers or researchers with governments and international and business organisations (including the EU administration), and as academics.

The LLM in European Union Law has three elements: modules, essays and a dissertation. The first six months are spent doing the modules and writing the essays. The dissertation is written during the period April to September.

Students are required to take the equivalent of eight half modules. Generally speaking, a module lasting one term is worth half a module and a module lasting two terms is a full module; a non-law module lasting three terms, however, is worth one full module.
