Her degrees include the traditional succession of law degrees in France (DEUG, Licence, Maîtrise), plus a D.E.A. (Diplôme d'études approfondies) in Private and Criminal Law (option Criminal Law). The Maîtrise was granted by transfer of credits obtained at Boston University within a student exchange program.

In December 2001, she completed a Ph.D. in Criminal Law at the University of Jean Moulin (Lyon 3), her thesis being entitled « Les enjeux du pouvoir de répression en matière pénale. Du modèle judiciaire à l’attraction d’un système unitaire » (The power to impose penalties in criminal matters. From the judiciary model towards a unitary criminal system). It involves not only criminal law, but also human rights, constitutional, commercial and administrative laws.

In March 2002, her qualification to a post of « maître de conférences » was granted by the Conseil national des Universités (National Council of the Universities).
