29 June-2 July 2010: Fernne Brennan will be presenting a paper on Slave Trade Legacies, Reparations and the Allocation of Risk, at the Eighth International Conference on New Directions in the Humanities at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA.

October-November: John Packer advised the OSCE Mission to Kosovo (OMIK) on Diversity Management and Building a Multi-ethnic Society for which he is contributing to the project desing, content, materials, training OMIK Communities Team staff and leading five workshops in regional centres across Kosovo bring together local authorities and representatives of communities and civil society.

27 November 2009: Sabine Michalowski was invited to give two presentations: 'The concept of  ius cogens' and 'Legal analysis of the sovereign debt taken up by the Argentinean military regime'  The conference on 'lus cogens norms and the basis for repudiating illegitimate debt' will take place in Leipzig, Germany.

25 November 2009: Sabine Michalowski gave training sessions on medical recordkeeping at the Farleigh Hospice in Chelmsford.

25 November 2009: Ellie Palmer was invited to present a paper at a workshop on 'Positive Obligations in Human Rights Law' at the Human Rights Centre in the School of Law at Queen's University Belfast.

25-27 November 2009: David Marrani presented a paper on 'Palaces of Justice or Places of Justice: the dilemma of post-modernity' with Cliona Marrani at the University of of Lincoln, Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design, and Business and Law.

20 November 2009: Kevin Boyle participated in a conference on the UN Human Rights Council in Seoul, Korea.  Organised by the UK Embassy and the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs the focus of the conference was on enhancing the effectiveness of the Council.

5 November 2009: Ellie Palmer participated in an RTF funded workshop 'Human Rights Inequality and Poverty: Do Human Rights make a difference? organized by Global Partners and the Human Rights Centre LSE.  One of the key questions was the extent to which rights can be used as a public expenditure policy tool, particularly in the context of a recession.  Ellie has written an article on this topic for a special edition on the European Human Rights  Law Review concerning Human Rights and Budgetary Analysis to be published in 2010.

6 November 2009: Sabine Michalowski  held a research seminar at City University, London on 'The complicity of banks in human rights violations after the latest decision in re: South African Apartheid Litigation'.

November 2009: Penny Brearey-Horne presented a paper on Maternity Services and the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 at the AHRC Conference: Good, Bad or Indifferent?  Medicine and the Criminal Process (University of Manchester).
