Our graduates acquire an exceptionally diverse range of skills during their time at Essex and have entered a wide variety of industries. Their

Our graduates are articulate, confident, adaptable and have excellent
communication skills. During your time with us, you will develop your

Diverse career options
Our graduates have gone on to have careers in a wide variety of fields,
including teaching, journalism, branding, advertising, marketing, travel,
communications, publishing, speech and occupational therapy, interpreting,
translating and media.
Our former students are now working for a diverse array of organisations,
from the British Council to the Royal Bank of Scotland, from Cambridge
University Press to the Norfolk Constabulary, and from English in Action to
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
Employers today are saying that graduates who have had no previous work
experience at all are 'unlikely to be successful' during the selection process
and have 'little or no chance' of receiving a job offer for their organisations’

Many of our Departments give you the chance to take up a work placement as
part of your course and there are a number of placement vacancies you can apply for. This year,
four of our students have seen off fierce competition to secure placements
