Our graduates acquire an exceptionally diverse range of skills during their time at Essex and have entered a wide variety of industries. Their
stories demonstrate the versatility of the qualifications that we offer.
Skills
Our graduates are articulate, confident, adaptable and have excellent communication skills. During your time with us, you will develop your
self-reliance and self-motivation. All of our courses teach you other skills such as planning and time management, teamwork, leadership,
negotiation and problem-solving.
Depending on your choice of course, you may also learn one or more foreign languages which are highly sought after by employers. Certain
modules also develop your abilities in questionnaire design, quantitative analysis, discourse analysis, and digital recording and interviewing.
Diverse career options
Our graduates have gone on to have careers in a wide variety of fields, including teaching, journalism, branding, advertising, marketing, travel,
communications, publishing, speech and occupational therapy, interpreting, translating and media.
Our former students are now working for a diverse array of organisations, from the British Council to the Royal Bank of Scotland, from Cambridge
University Press to the Norfolk Constabulary, and from English in Action to Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

formulate your career plan.
Employability events
Our programme of events is designed to help you with all aspects of looking and applying for jobs,
work experience and further study. New events and sessions are added throughout the year, so keep checking what's on offer.
frontrunners placements
frontrunners is our original placement scheme that offers students paid work opportunities on campus. We are currently advertising a number of placements to start in the academic year 2013-14

Internships are an excellent way to earn money and develop a stand-out CV. Register with us for
information on paid internship opportunities with local, national and even international employers.
Big Essex Award
The Big Essex Award is an employability award run by the Employability and Careers Centre. Log your
extra-curricular experience hours, add a little volunteering, and we’ll help you identify evidence and effectively sell your skills.
