Module Description
This module is linked to The Materials Bank of the National Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies.
This is a specialist content and language module for students who have an A Level in Spanish or who have passed the Intensive Spanish modules LA411 and LA412. The materials cover the history of the Spanish language from pre-history to modern times.
There is no exam component for this module.

All the materials for the module can be accessed within the University and from anywhere in the world if you are a student at the University. You can save the materials and your own work in a folder named 'LA447-From the Caves' to your personal drive. If you do not wish to do this you can print any part or chapter of the materials you think necessary.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students will be able to use different varieties of written and spoken Spanish; write reports, commentaries, essays and exposes; use spoken Spanish to show a range of styles and emotions in conversations, exchanges, presentations, situationals and seminars; and would also have acquired a set of transferable and cognitive skills.

Language component: This is a content module will cover advanced syntactical and lexical structures.

LA447 PROJECT Main Assessment Component : It  is worth 40% of the module; one draft  (20% each) and the final project(20%).
The project is written through the year with instalments due on Week 20 plus the final document on Week 30.

ASSESSMENT
WEEKS 6 & 7

a) Write a 500 word commentary on one of 4 the films you have seen and submit it on OCS by Friday of WEEK 6
b) Prepare a conversation (7 minutes) based on the commentary above, submit it on OCS with a hard-copy to L&L and deliver it in WEEK 7. Conversation Instructions. Please read and follow these instructions carefully.
The final mark will be an average of the commentary and conversation.

WEEK 11
ASESSMENT

ASESSMENT : a)Hand in all exercises from weeks 2 - 10 on OCS with watermarked copy to administrators by Friday midday, here   b) Personal Interview about project and topics we have seen so far. There will be a mark for each task and the marks will be averaged. Times for interviews.

ASESSMENT

ASESSMENT-one mark: Firm Draft of the Project - Submit on OCS - Deadline Friday midday WEEK 20 - 1000 words in Spanish  - First Firm written draft.

ASSESSMENT- second mark: Oral Conversation about Project: First Firm project draft oral language.

The final mark will be an average of these two.

WEEK 25
ASESSMENT

ASSESSMENT: Oral Assessment - Instructions - Interview during teaching hours based on the terms topics;  questions and answers.
Friday midday deadline to submit a)the scripted/written version of your presentation 600 words minimum on Online Course Submission and b)hand in a watermarked copy of the script for the presentation not he PowerPoint presentation  to the secretaries in Language and Linguistics before 4 o'clock.
