Intensive Consolidation Course in Spain








A compulsory component of Intensive Spanish is 4 weeks spent in Spain doing a consolidation course which will allow students to access LA440 the follow up module at Essex. Students go to a language school in Valencia.

This year the
course will start on
August 26
(domingo)
and finishes on
September 22 (sábado).
Accommodation details (addresses and names of families) will be sent to
students and staff well before September. Fill in the following

CONDITIONS AND INFORMATION
University of Essex
The students will
fill in a Vacation Form with their details and take it promptly to Sue
Shepherd, Administrator, in the Department of Language & Linguistics.
The
University of Essex will pay for the course fees of the
students enrolled in the course
The
University will invoice students
for accommodation expenses when they return from Valencia
The
Course Director
at Essex will make the initial contacts with the
Language School.
The
Students will make all travel
arrangements
and will pay for their travel, accommodation and sustenance expenses.
CILCE will
visit Essex and will be in contact with the students during the
academic year to answer any queries they may have. They will advise
students on every aspect of living in Valencia well before the start of
the course. They will also arrange families for students to stay with.

Module Description
This is a
demanding module that consolidates the students' level and prepares them
for the Post A Level module.
Work
The work for the course is a consolidation of what has been learnt
through the year at Essex. A sample of marked coursework will be sent to
Essex for Quality Assurance purposes.
Timetable - Mondays to Fridays: 9 till 12.00. Some activities in the afternoon.
Assessment
The work for the
consolidation course will be assessed weekly in Valencia. A certificate
of attainment will be given at the end of the four weeks. Students will
be assessed according to the EU level system: A1-A2 ( elementary) B1,B2
(intermediate ) C1,( advanced) y C2 (post advanced). Students will be
given a re-entry exam when returning to Essex to make sure they have
achieved the right level to take Post A level Spanish, the follow up
course.
Resit Examinations
First year students
- Students who fail one or more
courses in their 1st year may be asked by the Exam Board to
resit the relevant exam (s) in
September. In such cases, they should contact the Module
supervisor for advice on what to revise.
Students who are required to take September resit exams in either
LA411/412 or any other subject may sit these abroad provided that as soon as you receive your resit exam timetable you notify the Examinations Office so arrangements
can be made.
Accommodation Rules
Insurance
The University can normally provide
insurance for students who go abroad on University business. This is
free of charge.
To avail yourself of this service you must contact Sue Shepherd (sueshep@essex.ac.uk)
in the Department of Language and Linguistics.
You
should leave 5 working days for this to be arranged.

Activities
Every week there is at least one sociocultural activity (cafe chat,
cooking session, museum visit). There is also a visit to the Albufera
National Park.
