Prerequisite for entry: LA340 - Advanced Portuguese or equivalent knowledge of Portuguese and a year spent in a Portuguese speaking country.

This final year module is designed for students who have spent a year abroad in a Portuguese speaking country. It strives to help students further develop and consolidate their advanced language skills in Brazilian Portuguese through different aspects of Brazilian culture and society. This module will make extensive use of authentic and online materials where the emphasis will be placed on the critical analysis of text types and genres.

At the end of the course students should be able to: 

Demonstrate a critical understanding of complex specialised and non-specialised texts.

Write complex texts in Portuguese on different specialized topics, using different registers.

Take part in discussions as well as developing oral presentations on specialized topics.

Demonstrate critical understanding of different types of aural texts.

Demonstrate a thorough critical awareness of key aspects of Brazilian culture and society.
