Prerequisite for entry: LA340 - Advanced Portuguese or equivalent knowledge of Portuguese.

This final year module is designed for students who have not spent a year abroad in a Portuguese-speaking country. It strives to help students further develop and consolidate their advanced language skills in Brazilian Portuguese through different aspects of Brazilian culture and society. This module will make extensive use of authentic and online materials where the emphasis will be placed on the critical analysis and differentiation of text types and genres in context.  

At the end of the module students should be able to:

Demonstrate complex understanding, critical evaluation and synthesis of texts from newspapers, magazines, some specialist literature and also of literary texts.

Write texts in Portuguese on different specialized topics in the field of culture and society.

Interact in everyday oral situations as well as in discussions on specialized topics with due regard for register and setting.

Demonstrate critical understanding, critical evaluation and synthesis of aural texts in the form of dialogues, interviews, documentaries, films etc.

Demonstrate a thorough critical awareness of key aspects of Brazilian culture and society.
