Prerequisite for entry: None.

This module is intended for students with no previous knowledge of Portuguese.

Students will be introduced to basic grammar structures and sounds of Portuguese. Students will be encouraged to develop their written and oral skills in writing informal letters and short notes as well as taking part in basic everyday oral situations. A textbook will be used in combination with audio, video and online resources.

Each hour concentrates on developing different language skills and students will be expected to be able to understand and communicate in everyday situations, making use of basic structures and vocabulary. Students are also expected to acquire a general background knowledge of particular aspects of everyday life and culture in Brazil and Portugal.
