Pre Requisite for entry: Pass LA650 - Proficiency Level Italian + 16 weeks in Italy.

Module Description

 

    During this module, you are expected to achieve a near native speaker competence in Italian. In particular:

You will refine your knowledge of the language in order to understand nuances of meaning beyond words and sentences.

Within the language-focused framework you will consolidate your knowledge of Italian life, history, culture and civilisation.

And

You will reach a near native speaker standard of spoken and written language for the purpose of discussing and analysing complex

social issues and ideas.

You will develop your linguistic awareness and usage of varieties of spoken and written Italian (e.g. colloquial, narrative,

academic, journalistic).

You will acquire good knowledge of Italian culture and civilisation with emphasis on history, literature (especially the 20th

century), politics, cinema, art and society.

 

Module Structure

We have 4 different sessions a week of 1 hour which.

Culture session: we read about current Italian socio-political issues

Debate session: The debates complement the culture session presented by the teacher. Yous are expected to prepare for the debates by reading the material provided.

Grammar and Writing styles: This is an important part of the course as you will be revising consolidating and hopefully mastering Italian grammar. Writing in different styles will be the exercise that will allow us to study in depth the different layers of the language.

The Lab: We practice viewing comprehension of interviews, debates, documentaries and film.  

Set books:    You will independently read 3 set books. However in class, we will study some selected chapters and aspects of the books.
