Module Description
The project offers the opportunity to research on some aspects of Italian language, literature, society, culture or cinema. It involves multimedia-based work which will allow you to combine academic work with acquisition of transferable practical skills. Indeed, together with language and culture awareness you will be working on skills such as:
Researching - Gathering and organizing data - Reporting - Web design - Translating and Subtitling of video material
The project will include two parts: In the first term you will be working on researching and organizing information. You will be in contact with your teacher /supervisor and submit a draft of your findings regularly every 2-3 weeks in term time via MyLife. At the end of term one you will produce a report on your findings and will make an oral (Power-point) presentation of these.
In term two, you will be working on the practical skills aspect of your project. In particular, you will be translating and subtitling a short video. You will design a web site where you will organize all the information gathered in term 1. The pages, when completed, will also host your video material (max 5 minutes long). As for term 1, you will be in contact with your teacher /supervisor and submit drafts of your work in progress regularly every 2-3 weeks in term time via MyLife.
Learning and Teaching Methods: The interaction between you and your teacher will mainly be on a one to one basis in the form of face-to-face or e-tutorials. You will also have the opportunity to discuss some aspects of your project both with other students taking the same module and with the teacher via MyLife. Reading the material suggested by the teacher will be paramount to the successful completion of the module. The independence in reading, researching and choosing how to report your findings will be greatly encouraged. The teacher will be in regular contact with you and your work via MyLife and e-mail. Comments and feed back will be provided regularly on line.
Some aspects of the module will be lab based.
