List of topics covered during class time:
Greetings and personal identification, talking about yourself (jobs and pastimes, likes and dislikes), buying and ordering food, booking hotel rooms, complaining and apologizing, giving and understanding directions, travelling and making arrangements (the clock), shopping (clothing) and accepting and declining invitations.
Main features of the module:
I
t is designed for people who are NOT specialist linguists, so you do not need to have studied a language before coming to classes.By the end of the classes you will be familiar with basic Italian and you will have developed linguistic strategies to express yourself in everyday situations.
The module is assessed by coursework (50%) and a final exam (50%).
The module is organized in units. Two hours are devoted to class work and one hour to practise in the lab.
We will be using a main textbook Espresso 1 and a reference grammar Essential Italian Grammar in Practice (core texts for the module).
You will be given free access to a wide selection of Italian magazines, easy readers with CDs and Italian DVDs.
Some module material is uploaded on the University’s CMR (Course Materials Repository).
