This module is open to students who previously passed LA120 Elementary French, or who have a recent AS-level grade A/B/C pass in French or A-level grade D or equivalent. Among the skills which the module aims to teach you are: how and when to use idiomatic words and phrases in various situations involving a wide range of speech acts (contradicting, protesting, expressing doubt/anger/impatience/regret/love/hate/disgust/fear, announcing good or bad news, explaining, conceding, making promises and suggesting ideas, etc.); how to comment on surveys, write a job application letter, summarize an article, describe a scenario, etc. We look at and discuss a recent French film, and we use extracts from TV programmes and popular magazines.
