Life in Essex
Colchester and Essex
Situated in the county of Essex, to the north-east of London,
Colchester is very easy to get to from London.
There are places to explore by bus or car, including a castle
with an ancient history. For a small town, there are lots of restaurants and
interesting things to do and see, all of which you'll find by going to the
website of the Colchester Guide.
There is a relatively low crime rate in Colchester.
Sometimes it is the warmest and driest part of the UK. Brightlingsea and
Clacton-on-Sea are nearby and there are lovely walks by the river. You can explore
Manningtree, Harwich, Mersea Island, Maldon, and Sudbury by train (in Suffolk). There are also various festivals and shows in the summer if you have got
transport.
It is quite green here, in town and on campus. It is relatively undeveloped,
especially when you compare it with big cities with far too many skyscrapers.
If you are interested in local artists, you might want to see
some of the work of
Constable who painted in Dedham.
You might be surprised to know that Colchester is a sister
city for Jiangsu Province in China.
