Aims

To offer exposure in listening to academic lectures in
English on a variety of topics

To develop students’ presentation skills and facilitate
their oral contributions to seminars

To raise awareness on issues of political and cultural
importance

To facilitate students’ appreciation of works of literary
merit

To promote peer collaboration (through a video production)

To broaden their horizons via field trips to places of
cultural and historical interest

To develop students’ overall awareness of Britain through
its literature, history and culture.
Course Details
This intensive course comprises three main streams:
British Studies, Literature and Cultural Awareness.
The first embraces wide ranging topics such as the
Monarchy, Northern Ireland and Gender Issues, while the second focuses on
Shakespeare and his works offering in-depth analysis of genres and
literary characters.
The final stream concentrates on informing students as
well as enabling them to acclimatise by drawing parallels with their own
culture and by raising awareness on general cultural issues.
Participants are housed with carefully selected local host
families. The families provide bed, breakfast and evening meals. Students
are expected to participate in the life of their host family.
