Graduate Certificate and Diplomas
The International Academy offers a Graduate Certificate and an innovative series of Graduate Diplomas which provide an excellent entry route into a Masters course.
Graduate Certificate in English for Academic Purposes
The
Graduate Certificate in English for Academic Purposes is designed for
students who need to improve their language and academic skills before
progressing onto a higher level course. Successful completion of the Graduate
Certificate with the appropriate grade will normally qualify students for entry
to a Masters or Graduate Diploma course at the University of Essex. This is a
two-term course and starts in January.
Graduate Diploma in English for Academic Purposes
This
Graduate Diploma EAP provides a bridge between undergraduate and
postgraduate study. You will typically have completed three years
of higher education, but still need further academic study before you
can commence a Masters course. The course is for you if you
have graduated with a Bachelors degree, or have studied for a three-year Diploma
but do not yet meet the entry criteria for a Masters course. The Graduate
Diplomas are also compatible with preparation for a doctorate.
Subject-based Graduate Diplomas
The Graduate Diplomas are designed for students who need to improve
their subject knowledge as well as their language and study skills
before going onto a Masters course. You are offered the
opportunity to study modules in the International Academy and a chosen
academic department, and to gain direct experience of study in a
relevant discipline. Successful completion of the course with the
appropriate grade will qualify you for entry to a Masters level course,
and will greatly assist you if you intend to undertake further doctoral
