In-sessional Programme 2010-2011
In the Autumn and Spring terms, the International Academy offers FREE English
language classes for students registered on full-time courses at the University
of Essex. The aim of these classes is to support students in their academic
studies.
Priority in classes for the Autumn and Spring terms is given to students with
scores from the Essex University English Language Assessment Test. The next date
for sitting this diagnostic test is on 19th January 2011. For
further information on classes running in the Spring term 2011 please follow

Frequently asked questions
1. How do I register for a class?
Check the class description in the course leaflet to decide which class
interests you. Go along to the room specified on the Spring Term timetable .
Take your University ID with you. New students can register at the end of each
class.
2. I wish to continue with my Autumn term In-sessional class. Do I
need to register again?
No. You do not need to formally register again – but you should inform the
class teacher that you intend to continue with the class into the Spring term.
3. Can someone register for me?
Yes. If you are absent in the first week of term, you may ask a friend to
register for you. BUT remember, your name will be removed from the list if you
fail to appear or get in contact with the tutor by second week of term.
4. How many classes can I take?
Generally, we advise no more than two classes per term.
5. Can I audit the first lesson, then change my mind and attend a
different class later on?
Yes. Though you need to be aware that some classes may fill up in the first
week.
6. Can I register for classes by e-mail?
No. You must come to the International Academy office (4.111) for further
information on how to register for classes.
7. Can my family join the classes?
No. Families of Essex students cannot join the In-sessional programme, but
they are eligible to join, free of charge, English Classes for Dependants of
International Students and Staff (ECDIS).
