Mature Students
Starting at university can be exciting, as it exposes you to new ideas
and opportunities, but we appreciate that studying as a mature student can
also present challenges. This is particularly true if this is your first
experience of higher education and you have other commitments and
responsibilities to meet such as work and family.
We understand that your life and professional experience will vary, as
will your individual needs. There are many facets to you as a student, being
over 21 (or over 25 if you are a postgraduate) is just one of them. At Essex
we aim to provide you with the right support and guidance to ensure that you
enjoy your studies and your overall experience.
Approximately 23 per cent of our undergraduate students were considered
'mature' in 2010-11, so regardless of your age and experience you are in
very good company.
