Arriving and living in the UK

Life in the UK

The University of Essex is a multicultural institution with over 130 countries represented in our student population, living and studying together.

Life in the UK may be very different from your own country and it may take you a while to settle in. We have a wide range of services offering advice and guidance on many issues, our friendly and professional staff will be able to guide you during your stay.

UKCISA (The UK Council for International Student Affairs) and the British Council are organisations that provide valuable information and guidance to international students both before and after arriving in the UK.

Advice and guidance

Advice and guidance on living, studying and working in the UK is available from a wide range of campus services at the University and in most cases international student support is integrated around the University. There are areas of advice that are specific to international students and there are services that offer additional support to international students.

As well as advice and guidance on UK immigration, Student Support offer a wide range of advice to our international students, further information is available in the international area of the Student Support website.

Before you come to the UK

Have a look at the International Students section of our website and the Pre-arrival Guidance Index which contains links to some useful information for our international students.

We also recommend reading the information available from UKCISA (The UK Council for International Student Affairs) and the British Council.
