Applying for a visa
Applying for a visa to study at the University of Essex
If you are a citizen of a country that is not part of the EEA or Switzerland you will
require immigration permission that allows you to study at the University of Essex.
What type of permission you can apply for will depend on the length and level of your
course as well as your circumstances. You must be able to meet all the UK Border Agency
requirements.
Applying overseas
If you are applying overseas you may be able to apply for the following visas:
Applying in the UK
If you are already in the UK you may be able to apply for the following visa:
- Tier 4 (General), provided your current visa allows you to apply from within the UK.
Note
To apply for Tier 4 (General) you must be eligible for a
CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies).
If you already have immigration permission in another category you will need to seek advice from
Student Support to check:
- that you are not prohibited from studying
- if your visa is not long enough to cover your course, whether you will be able to make a
new application.
Making a new Tier 4 application
If you have a Tier 4 (General) visa that is to study elsewhere, you will only be able to start
studying at the University of Essex when you have made a new Tier 4 application using the
CAS we have issued to you. The Tier 4 application must be
made whilst your last visa is still valid and by the latest accept date set by the University. Further
advice is available from Student Support.
