Student Activities
Introducing your Student Activity Officer for 2011/12.
Jon Worgan

Jon Worgan grew up in rural South Wales and studied his
undergraduate degree in Law at University College, Durham University. While
there he specialised in law relating to
discrimination on the basis of gender and sexuality and worked with a
Durham research group on their awareness-raising blog “Inherently Human”. He was
also director of debating at Durham union society.
Jon is currently studying the LLM at Essex in International
Human Rights Law and volunteers in the Essex Human Rights Clinic. He has taken
the role of Student Activities Coordinator as a
frontrunner in the Human Rights Centre which
partly entails coordinating student tours with the participation of the
undergraduate and postgraduate student forums. This year there are trips to
Kosovo, European Institutions and Brussels and an undergraduate trip to London.
He is also able to advise other
student-led initiatives and support the development of further campus based
activities for all human rights students.
“I
hope to use my experience to bring the postgraduate and undergraduate
communities together in the organisation of some fantastic student-led
enterprises.”
The purpose of the SAO is to assist with the
enhancement programme of the HRC and act as a liaison between the students, the
HRC and its Alumni to encourage student initiatives and activities.
