Roma Rights Project
The Project
The decision of creating a project concerning the rights of Roma people in
Europe at the Human Rights Clinic stemmed from the recognition of the widespread
marginalisation and discrimination that this minority faces, and of the
difficulties faced by NGOs working for the protection and advancement of their
rights.
The Roma Rights Project has the following aims:
-
Collect information on the situation regarding the rights of
Roma people in Europe, with a specific focus on the countries of
the European Union;
-
Try to fill gaps in the existing research on Roma rights in
Europe;
-
Raise awareness on the issue through the dissemination of
information;
-
Contribute to advocacy campaigns organised by NGOs working on
Roma rights or related issues.
For the academic year 2011/2012, the main task of the Roma Rights team will be
the elaboration of three reports, analysing the respect and protection of the
rights of Roma people in Europe. The topics of these reports are:
-
Access to education for Roma children;
-
Racism, hate speech, violence against Roma people;
-
Trafficking of Roma people within the European Union.
The reports will be published at the end of the year.
