Grading and reviews at the University of Essex fall into three areas: job
evaluation and grading, annual review, and appraisal and personal
development.
Job evaluation and grading
For professional services staff, the HERA process
is used to match new posts to grades and to review the grading of staff in
existing roles. Grading of
academic and research staff is carried out through their annual review
process.
Annual review
The annual review process for
academic and research staff covers grading, permanency, promotion and
increments. The
annual review process for
professional services staff covers the award of additional/discretionary
increments and lump sum payments.
Appraisal and personal development
Our Appraisal and Personal Development Scheme
is an annual process that promotes lifelong learning and professional
development for staff, and engaging staff with achievement of the
University's strategic aims.
