HERA (Higher Education Role Analysis)

The University implemented the HERA job evaluation scheme in August 2006. This scheme covers the grading of all staff apart from academic and research staff, who are covered by a different but related review process. HERA is used in more than 120 higher education institutions in the UK and is acknowledged to be a fair, objective and reasonable way to evaluate roles across the university sector.

Further information about HERA, including forms and supporting notes, are available in a password-protected area of this site.

The HERA scheme is used to both review the grading of staff in post and also to establish the grading for a new post.

Statistics

Since the end of 2010 statistics relating to grading cases considered under the HERA scheme have been published. This includes information on the number of cases considered with outcomes, and the number of appeals with outcomes. All data is anonymous.
