25 May 2012: History Student Geoff Towsey wins a Wivenhoe Bursary!

Geoff Towsey, a third-year undergraduate reading Contemporary History, has become one of five Essex students to win a 2012 Wivenhoe Bursary. The award was established in 2005 and is made possible thanks to the annual Wivenhoe Town and Gown fundraising dinner which seeks to reward student residents of Wivenhoe according to their academic performance, contribution to the community life of Wivenhoe, and involvement in extra-curricular activities. Geoff is a Senior Student Ambassador for the University, President of the student-run History Society, and also a key figure in the History Society’s Time Travellers project, in which student volunteers bring history alive for primary school children. Geoff gained his award for the voluntary outreach work that he does with local schools, including Broomgrove Junior school in Wivenhoe. He is pictured here being congratulated by the Mayor of Wivenhoe, Councillor Bob Needham.
