James Raven, Professor of Modern History in the Essex History Department, was honoured by the University of Cambridge at a ceremony on Saturday 28 April, when he was awarded a LittD (Doctor of Letters) degree. This prestigious degree was awarded to Professor Raven in recognition of his contribution to the discipline of history. He has particular interests in media and literary history, eighteenth-century economic thought, the history of the organisation of knowledge, historical bibliography, and colonial cultural history, and has published widely in these fields.
