Why are some people and organisations honest and others are not?

This is what the Essex Centre for the Study of Integrity (ECSI) aims to understand, by taking advantage of the in-depth expertise available at the University of Essex for social science research alongside colleagues in different disciplines.

Are Britons becoming more dishonest?

Britons are less honest than they were a decade ago, according to new research (PDF, 640Kb) from the Essex Centre for the Study of Integrity. Read the full story online.

How honest are you?

Take the integrity test (PDF, 34Kb) now to see how you rate in integrity compared with Britons in general.

How did you do? Send your score and any comments to ecsi@essex.ac.uk or join the conversation on Facebook.

News and events

The official launch of the ECSI took place on Wednesday 25 January 2012 at the House of Lords in London. The event was well attended and some photos of the event have been posted onto our Facebook page.

Media coverage of the launch of the centre and Professor Paul Whiteley's latest research findings about honesty in Briton has been widespread. In addition to many radio broadcasts and articles in newspapers, the research is featured on BBC Radio 4's Best of Today podcast series (MP3, 2Mb).
