Colchester County High School for Girls sixth form student, Ella Passingham, recently took the opportunity to
interview Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Jules Pretty, about the new student
finance system affecting students and universities in the UK from 2012. The
video, filmed at the University of Essex, was Ella's chance to quiz Professor
Pretty regarding the forthcoming increase in tuition fees at Essex and
throughout the country. Ella will be amongst the first group of students to pay
the increased tuition fee, so she was keen to find out why fees are being
increased, what financial support is available to students and how the new
student loans will work.

This video has been made as part of our work to explain the new student
finance system to sixth form students and aims to help them make an informed
decision about going to university. Essex, along with most other research
intensive universities, has announced a proposed tuition fee of £9,000 for all
undergraduate courses from 2012. This is subject to the approval of the Office
for Fair Access (OFFA).
