Senior Lecturer in Law, joining Essex full-time in 2007. Author of Net Neutrality: Towards a Co-regulatory Solution (2010, Bloomsbury), Internet Co-regulation (2011, Cambridge University Press) and 3 other edited or co-authored books. His current research concerns socio-legal regulation, Internet law and policy, and has appeared in peer-reviewed articles, reports for the European Commission, European governments, OSCE and Council of Europe, and national regulators and foundations. He was senior analyst, RAND Europe (2005-07), Lecturer at Warwick (1997-2000), and regulatory director/general counsel at ISPs and start-ups (2000-3). LL.B. 1989 and LL.M. 1994 London of School of Economics, and Ph.D. from Essex.

Dr Audrey Guinchard:

Senior Lecturer in Law, (2009-), having joined Essex in 2000. Co-director of the double degree LLB Law/M1 (Maîtrise). Her current research focuses on crime and the virtual worlds as a starting point for a broader perspective on criminal law’s ability to adapt to new technologies. In 2010, she was a visiting fellow at the Centre for Research in Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities in Cambridge as part of the programme on The Future University. She has a Licence en droit, a Master 1 (ex-Maitrise), Master 2 (ex-DEA) in criminal law (LL.M.) and a PhD in criminal law (Jean Moulin Lyon 3).

Dr Marios Koutsias:

Lecturer in EU Commercial Law (2009-). He has co-authored two books: “Company Law in the New Europe” by Edward Elgar and “Company Law” by Palgrave. He is a Specialist Contributor to “Gore Brown on EU Company Law”. He researched at Queen Mary College, London (2005-8) in major research projects: "Fair Trade" and "Bosnia and the convergence of its environmental law with the EU standards". He practiced as a lawyer in Thessaloniki, Greece and in Brussels at the offices of the European Commission. LL.B. (Aristotle U. Thessaloniki), LL.M. Professor Sheldon Leader:

Research interests lie in jurisprudence, as well as in economic relations and human rights and the links between human rights, international trade, and investment. Also lectures at the University of Paris - Ouest, at various universities in the USA, and is Chairman of the Pallas Consortium of Universities for European Law. Graduate of Yale and Oxford Universities. He also lectures at various universities in Europe and the USA, and is Chairman of the Pallas Consortium of Universities for European Business Law. External activities: Legal Advisor, Amnesty International UK; Member, Advisory Committee of the John Smith Institute; Member, Chatham House Advisory Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility.

Dr Yseult Marique:

Lecturer in French Law at Essex since 2010, for the double degree LLB English and French Laws/Maîtrise, run in cooperation with Paris Ouest Nanterre, Lyon 3 and Toulouse 1. Prior to this, she worked at the Centre de droit public of the Université libre de Bruxelles from 1999 to 2006. She is now attached to this centre as a scientific collaborator. Her doctoral research was entitled “A legal narrative for English and Belgian public-private partnerships”, under the supervision of Prof. John Bell (University of Cambridge, 2006-2010). Her current research investigates public-private relationships within global administrative law and across legal cultures. Dr David Marrani:

Senior Lecturer in public law and comparative law, Co-director of the double degree LLB Law/M1 (Maîtrise), and director of LL.M EU Law and Comparative Legal Studies. He lectures in many European universities (in Estonia, Finland, Spain) and is visiting professor at several UK and European universities. Member of Executive, Society of Legal Scholars (2007-2010 & 2010-2013), and member of many comparative law associations. He is also a legal consultant. Ph.D (Essex), several other degrees in law (DEUG, Licence en Droit), Maîtrise en Droit Public, Master (research) Droit Comparé des Etats Euro-mediterraneéns, Master in Local Government Management, Licence d’Administration Publique, MA philosophy and psychoanalysis (Essex).

Professor Steve Peers:

Research interests include EU Justice and Home Affairs, External Relations, Human Rights, Internal Market and Social Law. He has written over fifty articles on many aspects of EU law, as well as many chapters in books. He has worked as a consultant for the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the House of Lords Select Committee on the European Union and the Council of Europe, and contributed to the work of NGOs such as Amnesty International, Justice, Statewatch and the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association. Professor Jane Wright:

Pro Vice Chancellor (2011-), Head of Law School (2009-11), Director of the Human Rights Centre (2005-2006). Her research interests focus on tort law as a mechanism to secure human rights and the interface generally between domestic law and international human rights law. She was a practising solicitor for eleven years prior to joining the Department in 1991. She provided consultancy services to the Minority Rights Group, the European Commission, the Probation Service, as well as training lawyers and academics in Russia and Albania for the Council of Europe. She was involved in the training of legal translators in key legal concepts and trainee probation officers on the Human Rights Act 1998.
