Disability Awareness sessions, 17 and 18 November – Southend Campus
This session is primarily for all non-teaching members of staff, although all members of staff are welcome.

This session will be delivered by Rob Lee who runs his own training company, Axle Arts. Rob has been a Disability Equality Trainer since January 2003. Past contractors have included the Arts Council England, DFES, Creative Partnerships, Italia Conti and the Scottish Arts Council. His sessions are informative and relaxed with as much participant interaction as time permits. He believes training sessions should not be too rigid and that learning and reinforcing what you already know should always contain an element of fun. Rob is also a successful drama practitioner and divides his time between the two occupations.
Following the session you will:
- Be able to determine the differences between different models of disability
- Know how to avoid making assumptions
- Understand some legislation around the Disability Discrimination Act
- Be able to employ appropriate behaviour with disabled people
